A dermatome is one of 30 areas of skin that is mainly supplied by a single spinal nerve. As such, they are neurologically useful for finding the site of damage to the spine. This 20" x 26" (51 x 66 cm) poster defines dermatomes and illustrates cutaneous areas of peripheral nerve innervation, and development of dermatomes as they branch into extremities.
Understanding referred pain is useful in diagnosing radiculopathy. Dermatomes are key to providing physical medicine, acupressure and acupuncture. © 2000
