For better results, optimize your search experience by understanding the type of search engine used on a website.
Keyword Search
This website previously used keyword search. A search query can focus on products or blogs, where a cumulative match of words within descriptions or articles is found. It is possible to enhance queries with “NOT” to exclude keywords. The advantage is numerous results.
The disadvantages are terms must match exactly and no results are visible until tapping the search button. Also, search results omit titles with the words “not” or “no” in them. Some platforms might offer options like wildcards or stemming to accommodate variations.
Predictive Search
The ClinicalPosters website now uses predictive search. Similar to autocomplete, this aims to anticipate what a user is typing, suggesting results before completing a word. The goal is to save time.
Predictive search supports partial word matches and includes typo tolerance. Your search can display results that differ from the search term by 1 letter, or results that have 2 letters in a different order. The first 4 letters of a search term need to be entered correctly for typo tolerance to take effect.
The disadvantage of predictive search is that it focuses on product and article titles for concise results, limited to 10. The administrator has also added synonyms to improve search results. It’s possible to find posters quickly by typing a few letters of the title into the search bar.
💡 The Posters menu groups collections by medical specialty.
Autocomplete suggests terms based on previous user queries and popular searches. This option has been disabled within our predictive search.
Semantic Search
Google and Bing utilize semantic search. This uses state-of-the-art deep learning models. Contextual and relevant matches take into account user location, synonyms, image concepts, and more. Semantic search aims to understand the user’s intent and the context of the query, providing more relevant and contextually appropriate results.
AI Search
Artificial intelligence takes semantic search a step further. It understands phrases and natural language queries like, “Why does my stomach hurt?” It can present responses that are not exact quotations from web articles.
Understanding natural language queries goes beyond traditional keyword and semantic searches. It can interpret complex queries, leading to more nuanced and accurate results.
Keyword Search
It is possible to add keywords to a page. Depending on the design of the website, they can either be visible or hidden. The blogs on the ClinicalPosters site have one visible keyword. Others that describe characteristics of the article are not visible.
Click a keyword on the blog page to filter articles. Click another keyword for a multi-tag search. Depending on the number of articles, you may be able to refine your search with three or more keywords.
Appreciate Search Differences
It’s natural for people familiar with Google to expect all search engines to work in the same manner. By having an understanding of which model is available on each site, you can enjoy more reliable results. The effectiveness of each search type can vary based on the user’s specific needs and the context of the search. Contact us if you require assistance locating product information.
