Social Dissidents

ESTIMATE 1-MINUTE READ

For over a year, we have adjusted to social distancing. There have been some dissidents who fight the rules. Now, California and New York, among other states to follow, are removing capacity limits on events. There is no requirement for vaccinated people to wear masks or to social distance—practically everywhere. However, businesses can choose to enforce mask wearing. Airports, hospitals, and government buildings still require masks.

Twelve states have fully vaccinated at least half of their residents against Covid-19, according to data published on June 15, 2021 by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Restaurants, movie theaters, and sporting events are eager to fill seats, and this is now possible on the honor system. You can now sit among maskless crowds of screaming fans if you are vaccinated.

It is an assumptive policy. If you show up without a mask, people will assume you are vaccinated. After all, who wants to spend time reading manual scribbles on vaccination cards that could be photocopied for all they know.

Picnics, backyard barbecues, and house parties are getting ready to rock. This will test the limits for a population of partially vaccinated people, even as warnings on COVID-19 variants arise.

People are tired of staying in. Businesses are hemorrhaging money. So more people are hitting the streets. Let sound minds prevail. Are you eager to dive into crowded activities or are you still comfortable wearing masks, despite vaccination?
