ReLEx VisuMax Femtosecond-Only Laser Vision Correction

Some people would give their right eye to see clearly again. That’s not necessary.

VISION Carl Zeiss Meditec ReLEx, the first femtosecond-only method of laser vision correction, is now available for sale outside the United States. ReLEx is a Carl Zeiss brand of complete laser vision correction procedures that can be performed entirely with the VisuMax® Femtosecond (10 to the negative 15th power) laser.

Following full ocular exam, WaveFront measurements and other topical data are combined to design an appropriate ablation profile. The surgery itself takes 10 to 20 minutes. Dr. Dan Reinstein of the London Vision Clinic enthusiastically explains, "Because of the curved contact glass and because the patient is able to self-center their eye on the fixation target, and because the contact [glass] and fixation target are coaxial, this system, for all intents and purposes, autocentrates itself. It autocentrates the flap on the corneal vertex or visual axis. And that's exactly where you want it to be because, of course, ablations should be centered on the visual axis."
